Rapper Cardi B is one of Angel Reese’s biggest fans, so it came as a shock when the New York City native missed the Chicago Sky’s first game in New York. Cardi went to TikTok to defend herself and explain why she missed the game, but people weren’t buying this dubious story.
Why did Cardi B miss Angel Reese’s game in New York?
Over a luxurious pancake breakfast, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper dove into a winding narrative of the events that took place before the Chicago Sky vs New York Liberty game she was supposed to attend.
It’s a shame that she missed the game, not only for the support of her friend Angel Reese, but because Chicago delivered last year’s WNBA Finalists a shock with their first loss of the season. Reese had 13 points and nine rebounds in the winning effort, but Cardi wasn’t there to see it.
“I was so tight because I had such a cute outfit. I spent money to stay an extra day in New York. I just feel like, damn, I disappointed Angel Reese,” she said, face stricken with guilt.
But the reason she gave left fans with more questions than answers. Her stumbling description of getting a flat tire at a gas station in Pennsylvania drew dubious reactions in the TikTok comments.
“She’s a good story teller she sellin I ain’t buying,” one suspicious fan wrote.
“She’s to rich for these lies,” said another, doubting her inability to find a plan B that could have gotten her to New York in time for tipoff.
Reese’s connections in music industry
Angel Reese never spoke on the matter, but it probably stung that her Met Gala hype woman didn’t show. Their relationship goes back to the 2023 music video for Latto‘s song featuring Cardi B, “Put It On Da Floor Again” which has over 100 million views on YouTube.
Even with Cardi failing to match Latto’s dedication to watching her in person, the Chi Town Barbie has plenty of other musical connections to fall back on. She and her Sky teammates were invited on stage to dance with GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion at their show in Chicago.
