Patrick Mahomes reveals incredible effort Travis Kelce puts in at Chiefs’ training camp: ‘That is what makes him so special’

From the sounds of things, the partnership between Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce is still going strong.

With the tight end-quarterback duo set to enter their eighth season of working together, it doesn’t appear either is about to slow down just yet.

That includes their preparation for the season, where Mahomes says Kelce has been putting in his best effort in preseason drills and practices.

He told reporters it was something he admires about his No. 1 target.

‘It’s remarkable, honestly, you see him out there every day in practice and he is working, getting the reps. He actually gets mad when they take him out,’ Mahomes said.

Patrick Mahomes has heaped praise on his tight end Travis Kelce for his unrelenting work ethic

‘He has all the right in the world and be on the sidelines, he knows all the stuff. But he loves it man, he loves working.

‘And it makes my job easier to push the other guys because I can say look at the Hall of Famer out here practicing harder than anybody.

‘That is what makes him so special – he enjoys the process of being great. Not just the top, winning the Super Bowl. The process of practicing, the process of little details.

‘You heard stories of Jerry Rice and guys like that, when you’re great like that you enjoy the process and it helps me lead other guys.’

Last year, that process led to a second-consecutive Super Bowl title – making the Chiefs the first team to go back-to-back since the New England Patriots in 2005.

Now, they’ll look to do something no team has ever done before: win three in a row.

But before all of that gets underway, the Chiefs will look to build off their preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Both Kelce and Mahomes made brief appearances – with the tight end getting one catch for seven yards and the quarterback completing 3-of-4 passes for 27 yards.

The Chiefs will look to rebound from that defeat with a Saturday matinee against the Detroit Lions at 4:00pm ET.

They’ll then close out their preseason on August 22 against the Chicago Bears before opening their regular season on Thursday, September 5 where they’ll clash with the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game.
