Mike Tyson, the legendary heavyweight boxer, didn’t hesitate when asked if he would have beaten the current heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, during his prime years. Tyson, known as the “Baddest Man on the Planet,” is set to make a comeback in November, but fans have always wondered how he would have fared against the recent generation of heavyweight champions.
In a candid interview, Tyson expressed his admiration for Joshua, describing him as a “breath of fresh air” and a “clean fighter.” However, the former heavyweight champion believes that when he was at his best in the late 1980s, no one could have defeated him, including Joshua and former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
During an interview, Tyson was asked if he would have beaten Joshua and Fury in his prime. He responded without hesitation, telling The Sun, “Yes. Listen, if you’re asking me if I was 20 years old, then yes, there’s no doubt.”
“They’re really good fighters, and I respect all their skills. It would have been very tough fighting them.”
Tyson’s dominance in the late 1980s was unparalleled. He became the youngest heavyweight world champion in history at the age of 20 and went on to have a remarkable career, amassing 50 wins, six losses, and two no-contests. His vicious combinations and raw power made him one of the most feared fighters of his era.
Joshua, on the other hand, has established himself as one of the top heavyweights of the current generation. The British boxer is a two-time WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion, and has shown glimpses of the power and skill that made Tyson a legend.
While the hypothetical matchup between Tyson and Joshua in their prime will forever remain a topic of debate, Tyson’s confidence in his ability to emerge victorious is undeniable. As he stated, “It would have been very tough fighting them,” but he believes that in his prime, no one could have stood in his way, including the current heavyweight champion.
Sadly Tyson recently closed the shop and decided to quit podcasting in order to focuse on his other business ventures.
