Former USC Trojans quarterback and 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart hasn’t gotten this much engagement surrounding his name in over 20 years, but that all changed over the weekend during the latest matchup between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Like millions of other fans, former NFL quarterback Matt Leinart watched the Indiana Fever defeat the Chicago Sky, and like many others as well, he also had something to say about the controversial flagrant foul.
Leinart, now an analyst for Fox Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff, was pissed off after he saw the flagrant foul by Angel Reese on Caitlin Clark. He took to his X account and posted, “Angel Reese should be suspended. Period. Not good for the game,” he commented. He also added, “No one is soft bud. It’s repetitive tho. Bad for the game.”

Former ESPN reporter Jemele Hill took to X and posted a picture of Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces looking quite confused in response to Leinart actually calling for a suspension.

The play began with Clark driving to the basket left-handed while trying to make the layup with her right hand.
During this move, Reese moves to help defend, and although she is aiming for the ball, she makes significant contact with Clark’s head. This is a play we have seen numerous times in basketball, and with the new rules, it would’ve been upgraded as a flagrant foul even in the NBA.
The reaction to the play is what makes it worse than it truly is because of the two players involved.
Angel Reese Calls Out WNBA Refs for Favoring Caitlin Clark
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese’s elbow struck Caitlin Clark in the head, and refs used a replay review to upgrade the foul call to a flagrant 1.
Reese, who scored 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and five fouls in the Sky’s 91-83 loss at Indiana, called out the refs after the game.
“I can’t control the refs and they affected the game, obviously, a lot tonight,” Reese said via CBS. “Y’all are probably going to play that clip like 20 times before Monday.”
Reese also discussed Clark’s getting preferential treatment, saying, “I think we went up really strong a lot of times and didn’t get a lot of calls. “Going back and looking, I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people get a special whistle.”
