Fury suffered the first loss of his career, as Usyk won a split decision to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Despite one judge giving the fight to Fury, the overwhelming consensus was that Usyk won via a unanimous decision. However, Fury did not see it that way. After having watched the fight back, he called Usyk an amateur boxer. The Gypsy King also stated that he gave Usyk only three rounds in the fight, only to then bizarrely claim it was close. Fury was almost knocked out in round nine, only for the referee to save him with a standing eight count.
Fury Reacts
“My problem in that fight was that I was probably having too much fun. It was probably too easy. At times it was too easy. It was like I was in there with a local amateur boxer and I was just enjoying it too much and messing around. I paid the ultimate price round in round nine when I got a 10-8 round and got clipped. That’s what happens when you’re having too much fun. But I enjoyed it. Get yourself well – I hear he’s got a broken jaw and broken eye socket – and I’ll see you in December for a Christmas extravaganza in Saudi Arabia. Get up,” Fury said
Boxing fans have now begun to compare Fury to Deontay Wilder for his comments. Wilder struggled to accept his losses to Tyson Fury. The Bronze Bomber alleged that Fury had an egg-shaped object in his gloves, claiming there was glove tampering. Wilder’s team naturally inspected the gloves before the fight, as there was no evidence of glove tampering.
Wilder also controversially claimed that his former trainer, Mike Breland, had spiked his water. Once again, there was no evidence to support this. Wilder would then fire Breland and hire Malik Scott. Wilder was never the same fighter once he teamed up with Scott. A large part was that the Fury losses changed him forever.
Tommy Fury Reacts
The American has only had one win with four fights since working with Scott. He was knocked out in his last fight against Zhilei Zhang. Fury could suffer the same fate if he refuses to accept the loss. His corner must be honest with him to rectify the mistakes and recognize that Usyk was the better man. So far, that is unlikely. His brother, Tommy Fury, also bizarrely claimed that he felt Tyson had won the fight.
“Tyson’s alright, all good, all good. Listen, at the end of the day it was a close fight, I did think Tyson did enough to win it. I thought the first half of the fight was a shutout and they picked up a couple of rounds after that, so I thought he won the fight. But at the end of the day it’s boxing, decisions happen and he’ll be back for the rematch. 100% he’ll win the rematch. There’s not a doubt in my mind that when the rematch happens he’ll right that wrong and get the victory back and move on to the next,” Tommy said
