Simone Biles sister Adria Biles initially felt annoyed when NFL safety Jonathan Owens met Simone and started dating. Biles and Owens met one another through a dating app, Raya, in March 2020.

They started dating during the COVID-19 pandemic and made it official in August 2020. The power couple got engaged in February 2022, when Owens proposed to Biles on one knee, and Biles shared the photos on Instagram on February 15, the day after Valentine’s Day.

In April 2023, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens married for the first time in a private courthouse wedding before exchanging vows in the presence of their close friends and family in a lavish wedding ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in May 2023. Notably, Adria was one of the bridesmaids in their wedding.

Recently, Adria Biles appeared on The Chris Osmond Show (via Spotify), where she talked about her first encounter with Owens, saying (13:05 onwards): “You know what’s so funny, I’m like so annoying, because I’m like that’s my sister like I’m so selfish with her.”

She added: “So, when she met Jonathan [Owens], I was not happy, I knew he was a good guy and they were great but I was like you’re taking my time with her and I was so annoyed. To be honest, me and him didn’t get along, I was just like being a brat.

Now obviously I love him and he’s like an older brother to me and she loves being married. It was really hard for me.” Notably, when Owens turned 29 this year, Adria wished him with an adorable message. She wrote:

“Happy Birthday BIL 🥳 thank you for taking care of my sister and thanks for always looking out for me 🫶”

Adria Biles opens up on why she began gymnastics with Simone Biles

In The Chris Osmond Show, Adria Biles revealed that she began gymnastics solely because her sister Simone wanted to do it. She said (2:59 onwards):

“I only wanted to do it because she [Simone Biles] wanted to do it. Like, I was obsessed with my sister, I still am. We are literally best friends.” Following Simone Biles’ successful Paris Olympics campaign where she bagged three gold and one silver medal, Adria took to her Instagram to showcase the role Simone has played in her life with a cute childhood photo of the two, captioning it:

“The little girl in me would look for you in every single room she walks into. you have made me into the person i am today and i will forever look up to you. i love you sister 🤍”


Simone and Adria have been close since childhood. Their maternal grandpa Ronald Biles and his second wife, Nellie Biles, adopted them.
