“Hot girl summer” is upon us. And we have Megan Thee Stallion to thank for coining the term.
While you were indoors coming up with rival memes, the rapper was busy with “Juice” singer Lizzo doing the most “hot girl summer” activity known to humankind: a flute-slash-twerking performance.
And thankfully, Lizzo posted the video on her Instagram.
“When Ariel, Ursula and Nala link up,” she wrote, tagging Megan and — somewhat inexplicably — Beyoncé, causing reams of fans to leave confused comments under the video.
“Am I the only one who was waiting for Beyoncé to pop up,” wrote one commenter, while others hopefully suggested Queen Bey perhaps held the camera.
“I was deadass waiting for Bey to come out and just realized it was that damn statue,” added another.
Alas, it would appear that the Beyoncé mention is a reference to the lion statue to the right of Lizzo — the pop monarch plays Nala in Disney’s remake of the The Lion King after all. Lizzo seemed to designate herself and Megan as other Disney characters from The Little Mermaid, sea witch Ursula and our main mermaid Ariel, for the purposes of this incredible exercise.
We, for one, are grateful for this “hot girl summer” gift.
