Photos of the Queen wearing a friendship bracelet made for her by a Guernsey school girl have been shared across the world, with even the Royal Family using one of those images in their social media posts this week.

Lola Burdett made a Taylor Swift inspired band for the Queen bearing the message ‘you’re a bright star’ and gave it to her while Her Majesty was in Guernsey on Tuesday.

The Queen immediately put it on her right wrist and kept it on all day.

It can be seen in countless images taken by professional and amateur photographers documenting the historic first visit of King Charles III, accompanied by his Queen Consort, to Guernsey.

One of the images – taken at Hauteville House – was used by the Royal Family to wish Her Majesty a Happy Birthday yesterday. The bracelet can be seen on the Queen’s right wrist, at her side, as she stands on the balcony overlooking Castle Cornet, Herm, and Jethou.

Lola had given the Queen her bracelet as she and the King met members of the public on the North Esplanade earlier in the day.

Their Majesties had arrived in Guernsey via helicopter at the College Field on Kings Road where they met members of youth organisations including the Scouts and Brownies.

They were then driven into town, with thousands of people lining Queens Road, the Grange, St Julian’s Avenue and the North Esplanade.

This was where Lola, and her mum Kelly Hindmarch were patiently waiting.

“When Lola heard the King and Queen were coming over she was so excited and asked if I could take her. Of course I said yes as I quite wanted to see them too,” explained Kelly.

“We got into town for about 09:30 and managed to get a spot at the front of the railing. An officer told us we’d chosen a really good place as the car would stop right in front of us. At this point Lola could barely contain her excitement!”

Although they had a couple of hours to wait before the King and Queen arrived in town, Lola had already ensured she was well prepared, having made the bracelet she wanted to gift to the Queen well in advance.

“Lola’s a huge swiftie and spends most of her time making the bracelets that you see being exchanged at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. She decided she wanted to give the Queen one that said ‘you’re a bright star’ on it,” said Kelly.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing though as Lola almost missed her chance.

“As the royals got closer to us she was getting quite nervous and as her hand wasn’t out far enough, the Queen missed her so in an attempt for her not to miss the opportunity I called Queen Camilla who turned around,” said Kelly.

“We wished her a Happy Birthday for tomorrow (17th) and gave her the bracelet as a gift to which she replied ‘thank you very much’ with a huge smile on her face and put the bracelet on!

“Lola cried with joy and started jumping around, everyone around us was telling her well done and she couldn’t believe that the Queen was wearing one of the bracelets she had made.

“When we got home, I had photos sent to me of the Queen from numerous people showing the Queen still wearing the bracelet throughout her visit.”

As well as crying tears of joy after her brush with Royalty, Lola remains thoroughly excited about it all today.

“I was like ‘oh my gosh I’m so excited’, she’s wearing the bracelet I made, I’m bursting with happiness!” she said.

“I couldn’t believe it. It was the best day of my life and something I’ll never forget!”
