Maria Sharapova went on a mission to the Met Gala. A mission to get Venus and Serena Williams together and to recreate the iconic 2021 moment.

But this year, while the fans were not able to get a glimpse of the trio together, they rejoiced at the Williams sisters’ truce with the Russian former tennis player after years of animosity.

All three of them were there to represent tennis at this year’s Met Gala. While the five-time Grand Slam champion and Serena had a long-going rivalry during their active tennis days after their retirement, things have changed.

Recently, the 37-year-old former tennis player took to her Instagram account to share two separate stories, one with Serena. But at the same time, there was only one thing: she was not able to get them to get there with her.

Looking into that, the whole segment was shared by Tennis Channel over their official Twitter handle. The caption reads, “Maria couldn’t get Venus and Serena together.”

Seeing the amazing chaos of how Sharapova was finding one Williams’ sister while talking to the other one, fans rejoiced in the moment. A fan highlighted how watching them as rivals for so long on the tennis court, it was literally, “nice to see them like this.”

On the other hand, one also highlighted how they are enjoying the friendship phase between the three tennis players. Along with that, he wrote, “I love that they’re friendly now” because there was a time when the three competed together, and no one can forget their epic battles on court.

Moreover, a fan mentioned how, off the court, Serena and Maria have left the rivalry part behind and are moving forward. He stated, “Off the court, they no longer have the animosity. And I love seeing that.”

Subsequently, a fan talked about how tennis players should treat each other outside the sporting arena, even after being competitive during the game. He added, “See, this is what you’re *supposed* to do when you’re a tennis player at the Met Gala and you run into another tennis player. YOU POST ABOUT IT.”

Finally, one fan lauded the friendship that the trio now shares. They emphasized how happy he was to see the two people come together in spite of their contentious relationship on the court, “their friendship eats idc”

The last time back in 2021, when the three of them attended the same event, Sharapova took the tennis world by storm. Sharapova and Serena went up against one another 22 times in their courtside competitive matches. Twenty of these encounters saw Williams come out on top, giving the American player an outstanding 90.9% winning record. But their past is not all sunshine and roses.

The infamous feud between Sharapova and Serena Williams

Their determination to oppose one another on the court ignited more tension between them than just a simple rivalry. This becomes more important in light of Maria Sharapova’s public declaration in her 2017 autobiography, “Unstoppable: My Life So Far,” that she and the Williams sisters were “not friends.”

She stated, “Serena and I should be friends: we love the same thing, we have the same passion. But we are not friends – not at all. I think, to some extent, we have driven each other. Maybe that’s better than being friends. Maybe that’s what it takes to fire up the proper fury … Someday when all this is in our past, maybe we’ll become friends. Or not.”

It wouldn’t be incorrect to claim that the Russian tennis player’s remarks have come to pass after witnessing them both laughing. What are your opinions on their joyful movement during the Met Gala? Let us know in the comments section below!
