American Idol season 22 judge Katy Perry revealed that she and Luke Bryan will “finally drink” together after filming the finale, after seven years of working alongside each other as judges. In February, Katy announced that she’ll be exiting the show after the American Idol season 22 finale.

Katy, Luke, and Lionel Richie have been on the judging panel since ABC revived American Idol in 2018, and they have a great rapport together. Katy’s replacement has not been announced yet, but she’s suggested that country superstar and American Idol season 22 mentor Jelly Roll takes her place.

She said, “I’m gonna stay present and take it all in and then have a little after-party and Luke and I will finally drink. After seven years, we’ll really drink.” Luke shared that “it will be emotional” saying goodbye to Katy on the show. He said, “We’ve had, gosh, seven years, spending so much time together. Me and her and Lionel, we’ve all leaned on each other… It’ll be a little tough knowing that she’s not going to be there.”

The American Idol Season 22 Finale Features An All-Star Line-Up

In addition to Katy’s goodbye, the three-hour American Idol season 22 will feature the Top 3 contestants–Abi Carter, Jack Blocker, and Will Moseley–competing for the crown. Katy, Luke, and Lionel will also take the stage. Jon Bon Jovi will serve as the mentor for the contestants for the finale, and he’ll also perform. During Disney Night, host Ryan Seacrest announced the all-star line-up of performers, including American Idol season 14 winner Nick Fradiani, New Kids on the Block, Jason Mraz, Hootie & the Blowfish, CeCe Winans, Wynonna Judd, Seal, Cody Johnson, Bishop Briggs, and James Bay.

American Idol will never be the same after Katy exits. She has brought so much life to the show. She’s been an encouraging cheerleader and a gentle critic for the contestants. Katy also brought a lot of humor to American Idol, and always kept everyone laughing. In addition, it was exciting to see what she’d wear every week, especially during Disney Night when she’d dress up as an iconic Disney character. It’s going to be very difficult to find someone to fill Katy’s shoes.

The American Idol season 22 finale is going to be thrilling. Abi, Jack, and Will are all incredibly talented performers with very different musical styles. Anyone of them could win, and they will all most likely have successful music careers. In addition to the competition, Katy’s farewell is sure to be a focal point of the show. She deserves a send-off that honors what she brought to American Idol for so many years. American Idol was lucky to have Katy for the past seven years, and she will be so very missed.
