Serena Williams recently revealed that she doesn’t step on weighing scales anymore after becoming ‘kinder’ with her body image issues.

The former World No.l has been vocal about her struggles with the way she looks, amplified by constant scrutiny during her career.

Williams is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time and for good reasons. The American has claimed 23 singles Grand Slam titles and was ranked No.1 in the world for 319 weeks.

However, the tennis star was also on the receiving end of constant scrutiny for her muscular physique during her career, and she once explained that the criticism led to her having body image issues.

In an interview with CNN earlier this year, the American explained that she’d become ‘more kind’ about her body Image issues since becoming a mother. Now, Serena Williams has revealed that she doesn’t rely on weighing scales anymore, writing on X.

“I can’t take anymore negativity and lies. And that’s why I won’t get on scales anymore. Can you relate?”

Williams has previously spoken about struggling with her physical appearance as a player.

During a 2014 interview with Fitness Magazine, she shared, “When I was young I thought I should be built more like an athlete – long and lean – not with a womanly figure.

Unless I’m eating really healthy, I feel that way almost every other week. I feel as if I can do better and be smaller, which I think is just a natural thing for women to feel.

Serena Williams recently sent a message of positivity to her fans.

The tennis star took to X to encourage her followers to practice a positive affirmation before going to bed, writing, “Before you go to bed tonight, look yourself in the mirror and say ‘you are gorgeous, you are beautiful and you are loved’. Love ya”

Serena Williams led an extraordinary career as a tennis player. She first rose to fame in 1999 after her victory at the US Open and went on to win 22 more singles Grand Slam titles. She also claimed 16 major doubles titles.

The American called time on her tennis career in 2022 and has since gone on to pursue various different avenues. She is the owner of venture capital firm Serena Ventures, makeup brand WYN Beauty, and also has her own fashion line.
