Afro-Latina rapper Cardi B will campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday in a last-minute bid to appeal to Latino voters.

Latino voters have been thrust into the national spotlight just days before the presidential election after a comedian at former President Donald Trump’s New York City rally referred to Puerto Rico as an island of “garbage.”

President Joe Biden then sparked controversy by appearing to use the term in reference to Trump’s supporters, though the White House and Harris have both denied he made such an association.

Harris’s favorability among Latinos recently fell into “dangerously low territory,” The New York Times wrote this month. The publication partnered with the Siena College Research Institute for a poll which revealed Trump is gaining ground with Latinos, a demographic which historically leans Democratic.

The Harris campaign’s website describes her “Opportunity Economy” proposal as an initiative to “equip Latino men with more tools and opportunities.” It adds the plan will “more than double the number of first-time Latino homeowners each year, to nearly 600,000.”

Cardi B, know for her sexually explicit hit “WAP,” will appear at Harris’s Friday rally in the battleground state of Wisconsin. The rapper had previously said she would not support either candidate while Biden was still running, telling Rolling Stone “I don’t f*** with both of y’all n*****” in reference to each presidential candidate.

The rapper in May also said the U.S. had been “betrayed” under Biden’s presidency. She admitted experiencing “layers and layers of disappointment” due to high living costs and low wages without any progress on resolving the perceived issues.

Cardi B Will Speak at Kamala Harris Rally in Milwaukee

Joining Cardi B will be her biological cousin and fellow rapper GloRilla, who rose to prominence after her 2022 single “F.N.F.” became popular on TikTok. She collaborated with Cardi B on “Tomorrow 2.”

Other musical acts at the rally will include DJ Gemini Gilly, Flo Milli, The Isley Brothers and MC Lyte. Harris has boasted the support of major musical talent throughout her campaign, such as Megan Thee Stallion, Eminem, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and John Legend.

Trump will also visit the Badger State Friday. He campaigned in Green Bay earlier this week along with former Packers quarterback Brett Favre.
