That restricted Mercedes from bringing quality upgrades until Canada. A traditional and cool circuit of Montreal supported W15 as it showed winning potential for the first time this year. Hence, inspired by the most latest performance gain, the German manufacturers are apparently planning to push more upgrades aggressively and consistently.

However, a few mistakes cost Russell a win, and he had to settle for P3. Regardless, a podium finish was the positive the team needed to get inspired and motivated for the rest of the season. After a strong weekend in Canada, team principal Toto Wolff stated that the vicious correlation issue has been resolved, and the latest success of the front wing upgrade introduced in Montreal is a testament to that. Not only that, Wolff has promised that as the season progresses, the German manufacturers will introduce more upgrades at almost every other race weekend.

“I hope that we can continue this positive trajectory,” Toto Wolff said after the Canada Grand Prix. Notably, Mercedes is excited about the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, as the track in Barcelona will be hot. W15’s stronghold is in cool conditions, and hence, performance at Barcelona may vary compared to Montreal. Regardless, the Silver Arrows finally have hope and the right direction to continue to move on. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been doing their best with the products available at their helm. While the driver clashes are expected to perpetuate, it’s important for Wolff to maintain harmony in order to achieve greater results for the sake of the constructors championship. Right now, before Red Bull, the Brackley-based team has to challenge Ferrari and McLaren first. Despite George Russell taking pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had his feet grounded as he didn’t expect him to win. Eventually, Russell ended up settling for a podium finish in a tight race with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Wolff explained that victory at Montreal was a long shot as Russell was just catching up on the hards.

“Maybe for a second, we thought about it, but you mustn’t be too greedy,” Toto Wolff told Sky Sports. The Mercedes boss added that the lap time gain is something the team is proud of as they have struggled in the mid-field all season long. It’s finally time now to push more aggressively and challenge Ferrari, McLaren, and eventually Red Bull to stake claim at race wins.
