And Paul revealed he’s a man full of surprises as he showed off his impressive vocals on Saturday Night Live.
Dressed as his character in the film, Lucius, Paul sang: “They look at me and all they see is a killing machine, but they don’t know that far below I’m so much more than I seem.”
Fans rushed to social media to remark on his voice, with one writing: “Paul Mescal singing I’m about to lose my mind.”
Someone else wrote: “I should’ve known Paul Mescal can sing.”
And a fourth added: “Paul Mescal on Broadway I’m ready for you.”
The sketch took several subtle swipes at Wicked, with SNL’s Kenan Thompson kicking things off with a song called No Place Like Home.
And it ends with Lucius flying off on a broomstick – a nod to Wicked’s main character Elphaba.
It comes after Gladiator director Sir Ridley Scott confirmed the future of the franchise.
Gladiator’s II came 24 years after the original film and Sir Ridley, 86, said he had “already written 12 pages” of the next script.
The British filmmaker, known for classics such as Alien and Blade Runner, has always enjoyed doodling and sketching and storyboards his movies in detail.
Asked if he had started sketching scenes for the third film, he said: “Yes!”
