No, Eminem is not dead.

However, according to the internet, the rap star died on December 10, 2023 at the age of 51.

Fans will be pleased to know the whole thing was just a cruel death hoax, but it didn’t stop people from becoming confused.

Someone took it upon themselves to edit the Slim Shady hitmaker’s Wikipedia page to say that he was dead, with the original version now, thankfully, restored to show that Eminem – real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III – is very much still with us.

The edit was screenshotted by fans and spread across X, formerly Twitter.

Of course, it wasn’t long until #RIPEminem became a thing and his name was trending on the social site.

Reacting to the hoax afterwards, fans expressed their concern.

A user with the name KryzeSkywalker said they ‘nearly had a heart attack’ when Eminem’s page was edited.

User ThisBrownGeek added: ‘I actually had heart palpitations! So so so happy he isn’t actually dead!’

Chloe Case said she ‘started crying’ while Raveesh Raj said: ‘That news gave me a mini heart attack’.

Social media users also lashed out at those who would be twisted enough to fake someone’s death, writing: ‘People can’t be goofing around like this rn. This years been bad enough’.

‘Big f*k you.. Don’t play when it comes to him’, wrote another.

Eminem isn’t the only celebrity to fall victim to a death prank this year, and he likely won’t be the last, sadly.

Eminem's name trending on X/Twitter
Understandably, the internet freaked out

Most recently, across the pond, Loose Women star Denise Welch was also forced to clear up rumours that she had died when misinformation started spreading online.

While the story was comical, as it was said she had been run over by Big Brother star Farida Khalifa in Kerry Riches’s mobility scooter, the TV star was left shaken.

X users even suggested a ‘state funeral’ would be happening for Denise, who was keen to confirm her mortality and thank people for their ‘concern’.

Perhaps in a more serious story, however, earlier this year it was reported that viral sensation Lil Tay had died at age 14.

It was said that the teen died in a ‘sudden and tragic’ death along with her brother, according to a statement on her Instagram page.

But, Lil Tay later shared a message herself, slamming the announcement as a hack on her account, leading to a ‘traumatising 24 hours’.

‘I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say,’ the star told TMZ.

‘It’s been a very traumatising 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.

‘My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not “Claire Hope”.’

The star also thanked Meta for getting her Instagram account back.
