Notably, Rihanna follows in the footsteps of religious leader Sarah Ann Gill as the second woman in history to be named a National Hero of Barbados. The “Umbrella” hitmaker remarked, “This is a day I will never forget, a day I never imagined I could attain,” in reflection of receiving this honor.

“Barbadians take enormous pride in who they are. I shall take this pride with me wherever I travel. “I will always be recognized as a national hero of Barbados,” Rihanna said at the country’s foundation ceremony.
