McLaren’s Lando Norris has claimed his first F1 victory with a sensational breakthrough win in Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix, with Aussie teammate Oscar Piastri‘s race ruined by a crash.
Norris began fifth, with pacy teammate Piastri the McLaren driver who looked most likely to upset the field, but a Safety Car at the midway point played well into the Briton’s hands.
During the safety flags, Norris pitted and emerged in the lead with a safety car slowing the rest of the field down.
Despite an attack from Max Verstappen the Briton drove calmly to claim the chequered flag, with Verstappen in second and Charles Leclerc in third.
